The Etruscan Necropolis
of Tarquinia is located on the Monterozzi hill, about 6 km long, is home to the main city necropolis, extending parallel to the Tyrrhenian coast. The tombs cover the entire hill, mostly chambers carved into the rock and topped with mounds. It is precisely the latter, now barely visible on the ground, because they have been leveled by agricultural work (but only a century ago there were more than 600 of them), which have given the hill its popular and expressive name.
